The Cambridge Advanced Exam Course (CAE) is an internationally-recognised exam, run at the Islington Centre for English (ICE), London throughout the year.

Please note that, since the ridiculous project that was Brexit reduced the number of Europeans visiting London, there are fewer students taking the Cambridge exams.  Now, Cambridge First and Cambridge Advanced Exam students study together with General English students in the same class.  This is still effective Cambridge exam training as you will receive tuition in all essential skill areas at either CEFR B2 or C1 level along with extra support from the teacher.  When ICE has enough exam students, we also offer extra exam-specific Cambridge First and Cambridge Advanced courses. Ask Kerry, our Director of Studies, for more information.

The CAE exam is a more in-depth version of the First Certificate exam. With the CAE course on your CV or University application you will have an excellent advantage over other overseas students or employment candidates. The Advanced Exam is accepted by the UKBA as suitable for Tier 4 General Student Visas (as well as by Australian immigration) and the majority of UK Universities now accept it in place of an IELTS exam. Have a look at this helpful institution list showing who accept the CAE. Students also find that working towards an exam, in a competitive environment, motivates them to succeed and gain the best results they can.

In each class students study the grammar, language skills & exam techniques required to be a successful candidate in the Cambridge Advanced Exam. The exam consists of 5 papers: Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening and ‘Use of English’ paper. Each of these is extensively rehearsed in each lesson.

As this is an advanced course you will need to be C1 level and above to join. The CAE course runs 9.15-12.15 pm every morning, Monday to Friday for a total of 12.5 hours of teaching time. There are a maximum of 15 students in each class. Alternatively, you can study for 2, 3, or 4 mornings a week, starting on any Monday that suits you. All teachers are native English speakers and are highly experienced in taking students through the Cambridge exam process. They will discuss your progress with you as you go through the course and advise you when you are ready to take the exam. The Cambridge Advanced exams are held in December, March and June of each year.

CAE exam enrolment itself will be taken care of by the college and students will pay the exam enrolment fee of £163 (paper based exam) or £163 (computer based), plus a £15 registration fee.

This course will leave you plenty of free time to take a job or explore London. Why not join our fun, weekly social trips and outings so you can make new friends whilst you are here!

You can enrol anytime. We do recommend students come along to Islington Centre for English for an interview/ consultation so we can advise on course length and exam dates.
