At the Islington Centre for English (ICE), London, one of the most popular ways to improve your English language skills is to enrol on a General English Course. By choosing to study our General English Course in the mornings you will have time to take paid employment or explore London and practice what you have learnt in your free time. Choose the days to study to suit you best, 2-5 mornings a week, Monday to Friday.
Grammar and vocabulary are the building blocks of successful English language learning and as part of your course, you will receive extensive practice in the essential skills of Listening, Reading, Writing and, most important of all, Speaking.
Learning works best if it is enjoyable so our teachers will encourage you join in and include fun language games and videos as part of the course. All our teachers are native speakers so you get to hear real English from someone who heard English spoken to them from the day they were born!
We want to increase your confidence so you can take advantage of your new English language skills, whether in preparation for more advanced courses and English exams (for example IELTS or Cambridge First), in your career or just to improve your general English when speaking with your friends or other people.
You will receive regular tests to monitor your progress and at the end of the course, students receive an ICE certificate of study.
We provide six main levels of general language tuition. On enrolment, students take a test to find which course is best for them. These are:
