ICE Recruitment Policy

Philosophy

ICE will endeavour to select a candidate who will help fulfil our mission statement and contribute towards an unforgettable, transformative student experience through excellence in role.

All recruitment will be based on merit.

A minimum of two references are required from someone to whom the candidate has reported for a minimum of 1 year.  At least one spoken reference is desirable and in this case, notes of conversations should be written, named & dated.

All staff must undergo an enhanced DBS check.

All staff must state in writing that they are not aware of any reasons that preclude them from working with U18s.

Office Staff

ICE will carry out a minimum of two interviews for office staff.  One interview will have at least two members of staff present one of which will be the Director.

Standards

Office staff will possess a minimum of CEFR C1 level in English.

Teaching Staff

Procedures

All teachers will undergo an interview with our Director of Studies.

ICE requires written references for all teacher applications from recent employers to whom they have reported for at least one year, where possible. Spoken references will be taken as follow-up where necessary. A minimum of two references are required. Notes of conversations should be written, named & dated

ICE takes into account where a teacher lives, as a local teacher can avoid public transport issues and potentially be less affected by severe weather.

Standards

Teaching staff are required to speak English to a genuine native level. Whilst there is some sensitivity on this subject, speaking English to a native level is regarded as a competence and, as such, is an entirely legal requisite for a language teaching position.

Teachers must hold a valid CELTA/ Trinity TESOL/ Language-based PGCE or equivalent. A degree and an additional language is desirable. Any teacher involved in the teaching of English for Specific Purposes must also possess a subject-specific qualification, or experience.

All contracted teachers must hold an enhanced DBS check.

Should a temporary/ cover teacher not possess a valid DBS, ICE will insist upon an application being made during engagement of services. Such teachers will not be asked to teach under 18 year-olds.

The Director of Studies (DoS) must be DELTA/ MA/ Dip TESOL or equivalent qualified with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a comparable role.

Interns

Interns will be paid travel expenses and offered free 15-hour per week English tuition throughout their stay.

They will be at least 18 years of age and stay for a minimum of 12 weeks.  They will need to speak English to a minimum of CEFR B1 level.

ICE aims to significantly develop the competencies of an intern and enable him/ her to leave the position with enhanced job prospects.  This will include daily access to senior management.
